A free opportunity is happening today in Jefferson as a new documentary about a previous guest speaker for a recent event will be shown on the big screen.
“The Negro Artist” is a documentary that is directed, edited and co-produced by Nik Heftman. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio the film is about nationally-renowned slam poet Caleb “The Negro Artist” Rainey and his life. Rainey was also the guest speaker at the Ekphrasis event that happened in Jefferson this past Sunday. Jefferson Matters Executive Director Matt Wetrich was also an artist participant at Ekphrasis and shares his thoughts on his impression of Rainey.
“He shared a number of different poems and perspectives from his life and boy there was some moving, moving poems that he recited of his own, and he’s very, very engaging and very thought provoking. Like good art does it really just moves you in a lot of ways. So I’m really looking forward to what this documentary is really going to be.”
The free showing of the documentary is at 1:30pm at the Sierra Community Theatre. It is open to the public with some poetry being performed prior to the film being shown.
