Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Football Head Coach Doug Winkowitsch reflects on building a bond with the players during his first season.
Winkowitsch spent 20 years with Delaware High School before being named ADM’s Football Coach prior to the 2024 season. He credits the administration within the school district, emphasizing that they supported him from the beginning. Winkowitsch describes that he went through every possible emotion in existence as the Tigers experienced close games, offensive battles, comebacks, and heartbreaks. Despite the outcome, he knows that the players poured their hearts out on the field.
“I just can’t tell you how proud I am of these kids and how resilient they are. And you don’t have that ‘don’t break’ mentality unless you got tremendous leadership from your seniors, and I just think that we had a great group of young men that truly understand the role. I always talk about how important it is that our scout team, we’ll go as far as our scout team will allow us, I was just so impressed with how well our second (and) third string guys prepared us each week by giving us great looks, and of course, the tremendous coaching staff.”
Winkowitsch expresses that the players sacrificed the time in order to get better each week, which made the wins sweeter and the losses tougher. Winkowitsch shares that he feels like he’s just getting started and is excited to take this ADM program to the next level. The Tigers finished 8-3 on the year, being defeated by Lewis Central in the Class 4A Quarterfinals last Friday, November 8th.
