On Veterans Day, one organization in Jefferson is inviting the public to a free event.

Jefferson VFW Post 9599 Commander Jim Martin says they are hosting an ice cream social on Monday at 1pm at the VFW Hall on the east side of the downtown square. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that afterwards they are having fun bingo that everyone can enjoy for free as well. Before then, Martin notes that a free breakfast for local veterans will be served from 7am-noon also at the Jefferson VFW Hall. He talks about why their organization wants to celebrate Veterans Day with a free ice cream social for the public.

“Well, we’re just trying to give back. We’re giving something for the veterans on Veterans Day provided by HyVee and it is our way of including the community with the Veterans Day.”  

Martin adds that no pre-registration is required for the ice cream social.
