Guthrie County New Opportunities is preparing for the holiday season, with an annual event once again.
Family Development Coordinator Rhonda Huggins says the Giving Tree is where they take the information of children from families that use their services, and try to get presents for them, sharing that they sometimes have individuals from the community that volunteer to get items.
“If you’re interested in adopting a family from us, give us a call and we can take care of that. If a family gets adopted, we let the adopter take care of that family. If you are a family that doesn’t get adopted because I rotate that every year, then your child’s information gets put on what we call the Giving Tree.”
Huggins mentions that the names of the individuals and families are confidential, but the age, gender, and some items that they may have asked for are listed. She asks that any items donated for an adopted family or child from the Giving Tree are brought to New Opportunities in the plastic bags from the store, as they will have wrapping paper at their office that can be used to wrap the gifts.
