Scranton High School graduate Shelly TerHark is being inducted into the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Hall of Fame in the sport of volleyball. She coached for 33 years at two schools, Clarion-Goldfield, and Algona High School. TerHark’s career record was 874-319. According to the IGCA website, she took five Algona teams to State Tournaments, finished second in 2005, and reaching the semifinals in ’07. Starting in 2004, she led the Bulldogs to seven straight North Central Conference titles.
In 1997, TerHark coached the Senior All-Stars, and she was named IGCA Co-Coach of the Year in 2005. Retired as a coach, athletic director, and high school business teacher, she now officiates volleyball.
She is the daughter of Larry and Gaye Barr of Scranton.
