Several Greene County High School students got to experience an annual event to broaden their scope of agriculture.

The Greene County FFA Chapter attended the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana last week, and they visited several companies as well. The places the group went to included a lock and dam tour about shipping commodities, the Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate Company, the Arch in St. Louis, Spy Coast Farm about breeding warmblood performance horses, Ale-8-One Bottle Company, and a concert with Nate Smith and Megan Moroney. Sophomore Dakota Ostrander talked about their tour of Spy Coast Farm as being her favorite place they went to.

“And they took us like in their breeding area. And so I learned more on breeding with horses. Like I knew how it was done, but I didn’t know certain parts of it, and they also do it like a different way than I knew, so I also learned a new way on how to breed a horse.”

Eli Glawe described his favorite parts of the convention being the expo while also meeting new FFA members from across the country, along with how the entire convention was conducted overall, as well as the keynote speaker, who used comedy to make it more engaging. He explained why he wanted to go to the FFA National Convention.

“Well last year, I didn’t get many opportunities to go on FFA trips and stuff with just being busy. And so I thought this was going to be a pretty cool opportunity because I’ve never been to Indianapolis before, and I want to see what it’s all about and stuff. And it was fun to go with friends and stuff, and see, there was a lot of things there.”

The Greene County FFA Chapter is led by their Advisor Raelyn Harris, and about ten students went on the trip.
