Sunday is Daylight Saving Time, and while everyone is turning their clocks back, there’s a safety check that many commonly do as well.

Stuart Firefighter Corey Pline mentions that with Daylight Saving Time ending on Sunday, many individuals should also check their smoke detectors to make sure that they are working properly and have sufficient battery power. He adds that people can also do monthly checks of smoke detectors, but that the six month check is more easily remembered. Pline adds that smoke detectors should be on every floor of a home, and that they should be at least 10 feet from any cooking source.

Daylight Saving Time ends at 2am on Sunday.
