Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has a new face among its staff.
Program Director Shelby Van Horn says that she has spent time working for ISU Extension before, as the Youth Coordinator in Cass County, but stepped away from Extension life when her daughter was born. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that now that her daughter is a little older, she wanted to get back into doing stuff with Extension, and when she saw the position in Guthrie County open, she decided to apply.
Van Horn shares some information about herself for the community to get to know her better.
“So I guess the biggest thing for me is just my passion. I have an absolute passion for all things ag(riculture), for all things 4-H and FFA. It’s just where my heart is, and so you can always find me doing activities of those nature. And then in my free time, I also really like to play golf. So I actually played college golf. And so in my spare time, when I have a chance, I like to go hit the golf course.”
Van Horn grew up in Marion County, participating in beef and swine events in 4-H. She adds that she went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Science from Northwest Missouri State University, and is looking forward to working with the residents of Guthrie County to provide fun and informational events.
