Perry Schools recently implemented Bluejay statues to provide visual representation to the community.
Perry Superintendent Clark Wicks expresses that former Activities Director Tom Lipovac with the help of Des Moines Area Community College Literature Instructor Linda Kaufman crafted Bluejay sculptures to install at the elementary, middle and high schools. Wicks illustrates that the sculptures symbolize the determination it takes to be a bluejay.
“It’s a great reminder of who we are. That we’ve got to dream big, we’ve got to be the best version of ourselves on a couple of those core values that we talk about, and that everybody takes ownership, and takes care of that bluejay.”
Wicks is hoping that people are spreading the enthusiasm by taking pictures with the sculptures, but asks that residents please respect them by not climbing onto them or writing on them. He is happy that the sculptures have been made to showcase the phenomenal school district.
