The Round of 16 Iowa high school football playoffs pairings were announced Saturday morning and Greene County will be going to Monroe to face second rated and undefeated PCM on Nov. 1 for a 7 p.m.contest. The Iowa High School Athletic Association groups teams of four into pods, so not only do programs know who they’ll play in the Round of 16, but Friday’s winners know who their quarterfinal opponents will be. For the 5-4 Rams, if they pull an upset over the 9-0 Mustangs, they would face either Mediapolis or Mid-Prairie (Wellman) in the Nov. 8 quarterfinals. Any loss and the 2024 season comes to an end.

Coach Caden Duncan’s team led from their very first offensive possession last Friday night en route to a 30-6 victory in Clarinda over the host Cardinals in the round of 32. The Rams had two rushing touchdowns from senior Nicholas Stream, two TDs through the air from senior quarterback Crew Conner to junior receiver Broc Stream, plus a 32 yard field goal and three extra points from junior kicker Teagan Chisholm. The defense did not allow a team averaging nearly 33 points a game any points from the line of scrimmage. The Clarinda TD came on a kickoff return of 88 yards.

Last Friday’s game was broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com, as will the Nov. 1 contest.
