The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is hosting an event for those that enjoy the outdoors later today.

From 1-3pm, those interested can take part in the fall color hike, with Iowa DNR Interpretive Naturalist and Educator Anne Riordan leading the way. Riordan says that they will start at the park’s gazebo and hike around the park, covering trails and multiple areas to observe the new fall foliage, along with other differences in plants as winter approaches, like how they cast off their seeds/seedlings.

Riordan mentions that it will also be easy to observe some of the differences in habits and behaviors of wildlife. She mentions that these changes can include storing food for colder weather, putting on fat for hibernation, shedding their summer fur coats for winter coats and much more.
