Certified enrollment is one of the main financial budgeting tools for a public school district.

Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center School District Superintendent Josh Rasmussen says that in the October meeting of the two School Boards, he reported their certified enrollment and Basic Educational Data Survey (BEDS) numbers. Rasmussen mentions that the Guthrie Center School District’s certified enrollment is up by one student, and that the Adair – Casey School District’s certified enrollment increased by 13. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio why those numbers are vital information for the district.

“That’s the important one because the money follows a student that you’re serving. So just glad to see that we’re remaining steady. You’re just a little bit up there.”

Rasmussen adds that while funding for the next year is determined by the certified enrollment numbers, a district’s BEDS numbers are used by the Iowa High School Athletic Association to determine classifications for football.
