The Greene County Development Corporation Board met this past Tuesday in regular session.

The meeting started with reports as Greene County Supervisor Pete Bardole talked about the ballot measure for the November General Election regarding changing the revenue purpose statement for Local Option Sales and Services Tax (LOSST) to use the additional amount for an HVAC project for the Greene County Courthouse. He pointed out that this change would not increase property taxes and would still be used for property tax relief.

Next, Jefferson City Administrator Scott Peterson said the pickleball court has had its concrete pad poured and is allowing 30 days for it to cure. The Jefferson Tree Committee was awarded a Department of Transportation grant to purchase 110 trees that will be planted on the easement along Olive and Locust. He added that DOT staff will present their report from the public meeting that was held to possibly convert Iowa Highway 4 from four to three lanes to the street committee meeting this coming Tuesday.

Greene County Medical Center CEO Chad Butterfield told the Board that they are working to finalize plans to provide additional services once again at the medical center and advocated for everyone to get their flu, RSV and covid shots for those individuals that qualify because medical experts anticipate high rates for all respiratory illnesses this winter.

Jason Cerveny reported from The Children’s Center that his wife Cherie Cerveny has resigned as its director and a new one will be announced soon.

There were also reports from 144 and 25 Corridor Housing Initiatives, respectively. Mary Weaver reported for 144 CHI was close to having over $500,000 of completed housing projects this year on the eastern side of the county and about $88,000 was requested for their second phase of clearing properties of old, abandoned structures. John Rigler III said 25 CHI had over 60 applications and awarded 37 for projects on the western side of Greene County with a total of about $300,000 in matching funds for exterior home improvements.
