The Perry Community School District issued a response following Dallas County Attorney Jeannine Ritchie’s report on the January 4th tragedy.

A press release from Perry Superintendent Clark Wicks displayed gratitude to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, the Perry Police Department, and other law enforcement officials for reviewing the evidence regarding the shooting. Wicks emphasizes that although the school district hasn’t commented publicly on the matter, an internal investigation was launched to determine appropriate security measures to take.

The school district has utilized various methods of safety enhancements over the past 10 months following the events of January 4th. Wicks unveiled that the school district has been given grant funds from the state and federal agencies to assist in the recovery process. He highlights that Perry Schools have two law enforcement officers, a recovery coordinator, enhanced mental health supports, state safe and sound system, emergency operations plans; Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate (ALICE) Training; communication upgrades, classroom security enhancements, restricted building access, raptor visitor system updates, staff badges, as well as protective window film installation.
