A Humboldt man was recently sentenced to prison for sexually abusing a child in Greene County.

According to court documents, 41-year-old Jose Dubon pled guilty to an amended charge of a Class C Felony for third degree sexual abuse. He was sentenced to ten years in prison and once released, Dubon will be in the custody of the Iowa Department of Corrections Director for life.

The charge stemmed from an investigation that the Jefferson Police Department began on September 4, 2023. According to court documents, once officers were notified of the sexual abuse incident with the 13 year old had taken place earlier in the year, evidence was then collected, including an interview that was done at Blank Children’s Hospital with the STAR Center Forensic and Iowa Department of Human Services that sex abuse had occurred.

Court documents show that Dubon was also ordered to pay over $1,500 in fines and surcharges. As per the plea agreement, Dubon pled guilty to the lesser Class C Felony of the original charge of a Class B Felony for second degree sexual abuse. The plea agreement also shows the other charges in the case, two felonies and two aggravated misdemeanors, were dismissed.
