The Friends of the Jefferson Public Library are inviting everyone to celebrate this year’s Friend of the Year Award recipient.

Library Director Jane Millard says Nancy Rogers is this year’s honoree and she has volunteered her time to the library for the past five years. She was also co-owner, along with her husband Dean, of John 15 Vineyard. Millard shares one of her favorite things she likes about Nancy.

“A lot of her talents are in baking. And so she is responsible for (the) wonderful treats that we have at our programs. And there always customized and special. And so if you’ve been to the library programs and had refreshments, you probably had some of Nancy’s treats.”

Youth Services Librarian Bailey Mount talks about Nancy and the kinds of things she has done as a Guest Reader with students at Greene County Elementary School with treats and cookies, but she also did this unselfish act for the kids.

“Last year she actually paid, out of her pocket and not being asked mind you, it was just a stunning form of altruism that was so beautiful, she bought a book for each kid in the classroom that she was reading to. And she had spent the year getting to know them so she was able to pick books that she thought would work with their personalities. Just a really sweet woman. Every time she comes in I just get excited to see her.”

The Friend of the Year Award ceremony takes place tomorrow at 5pm at the Jefferson Community Golf Course Clubhouse.
