As Halloween gets closer, a youth program is coming up in Jefferson that celebrates the holiday and the fall season.
Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department Director Nathan Kral says the annual Pumpkin Floral Design offers two sessions for kindergarten through eighth grade to participate. The program will be held on October 28th with the first class from 2-2:45pm and the second session from 3-3:45pm at the Greene County Community Center. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio Fudge’s Flowers and Gifts Owner Bonnie Silbaugh will lead each workshop where participants will get to decorate their own pumpkins with live flowers. Kral points out that youth can then take their pumpkins home or for no charge, the kid’s arrangement will be delivered to their favorite teacher.
Kral talks about the growing interest in this program.
“It’s been popular and that’s why she’s (Silbaugh) doing the two different sessions. Because normally we’ve offered the first one and it’s filled up right quick. So we’ve just tried to come up with that second session in the past. So we’re setting in stone two sessions to begin with and that limit is 12 kids per session. So we would take 24 kids that day.”
Kral adds there are some spots left in both classes. The cost to attend is $25 for community center members and $30 for non-members. Contact the community center at 515-386-2134 or click here to sign up.
