A non-profit organization in Jefferson is asking for the public’s help with donations for relief efforts from the recent hurricanes.

Danille Curtis is the Public Relations Specialist with Midwest Mission and says following the first disaster in the Florida area, Hurricane Helene, Midwest Mission responded quickly and dug into its inventory of cleaning and hygiene kits.

“We did have the request come in from one of our partners in Florida. We work closely with Food For The Poor and also with the Catholic Charities in Florida. They were prepared to distribute some supplies for us and we had ready 60 pallets of cleaning supplies, traps, trash bags and over 4,000 hygiene kits ready to go.”

However, Curtis points out another request was received following Hurricane Milton and all of their cleaning kit items have been depleted. She is asking for the public’s help with donations of certain items. Those include items such as laundry detergent, liquid dish soap, work gloves with a leather palm, among other items. Curtis emphasizes another way people can help is with monetary donations.

“They allow us to be able to shift and act quickly. So whatever the request is, it might not be something that we have on hand in our warehouses but if we had money we can get it quickly and get it sent to them. So monetary donations are also appreciated.”

Monetary donations can be made online at midwestmission.org/donate. Curtis adds that donations can be dropped off at their Jefferson location 9am-4pm Monday through Thursday, or contact Curtis to arrange another time for her donations to be picked up. She appreciates the support and assistance that the people of Greene County give to help others who have been impacted by any natural disasters. A full list of needed items can be found below.
