A US Senator from Iowa made a stop in Jefferson to visit with the future decision makers of the country.
Senator Joni Ernst went to Greene County High School on Thursday and spoke with students about her where she grew up and her military background. She also went over how she started her political career as the Montgomery County Auditor, then went to the Iowa Senate, before landing in the US Senate and serving in that capacity since 2016. Next, Ernst took several questions from the students. Some of the topics that were covered included abortion rights, carbon dioxide pipeline, foreign aid to countries such as Ukraine and Israel, the hardest part of being in the military as a female and what she thought of Former President Donald Trump.
Ernst talked about what she enjoyed the most with doing these school visits with students.
“Well I love it because there’s so much enthusiasm I think when they get to engage with an elected representative and again it just highlights who we are as Iowa and the accessibility of our politicians. We want to make sure that whether it’s a town hall or coming in and visiting with students, just opening up and answering whatever questions are on their minds.”
The stop in Greene County was part of Ernst’s 99-county tour.
