The Greene County Community Theatre, formerly the Community Players of Greene County, recently announced its performances for its 52nd season.

Josh Tuel is an active member and has been the director of the last few shows and says there are six performances happening, with the first one coming up at the end of the month. With as many shows as Greene County Community Theatre is planning to have, Tuel points out that their organization was inspired after seeing several new individuals that were a part of their last couple of shows with “The Nerd” and the “2nd Annual Community Theatre Radio Hour” and he wants to give even more people an opportunity to explore their acting sides.

“Hopefully, kind of revitalizing the community theater. Losing live theater in small towns is just detrimental to the overall health of the community. I think if you looked around a lot of community theaters in towns that are smaller than 8,000-10,000 have kind of folded. So Greene County (Community Theatre) has been around since, it’ll be season 52 and we’re continuing to fight to keep it alive. So this is the kind of thing that really helps.”

Tuel believes there is a good mix of different kinds of shows that should appeal to a wide range of audiences, as well as participants. He adds that rehearsals are underway for the next performance in November with “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged,” there are two readers theater-style shows, including “War of the Worlds” by Orson Welles on October 30th to be released on their Facebook page and a “A Community Theatre Carol” with their take on “A Christmas Carol” at Greene County High School auditorium on December 21st. Informational meetings are happening soon to draw interest and decide on the casts for those productions.

The meetings are this Sunday at 5:30pm at the high school and the following Monday at 7pm at the Masonic Lodge on the downtown square in Jefferson. Click here for more information.
