The City of Greenfield Municipal Utilities (GMU) put out a boil advisory Monday afternoon.

GMU explains that a large water main was inadvertently damaged which caused a leak, and while crews were on site to make repairs, they were informed of several other water main breaks around town. The cause of the secondary breaks was found to be the rapid loss of pressure, followed by the lines rapidly being repressurized. The original break was worked on while there was still daylight, and crews will start working on the secondary breaks Tuesday morning.

GMU mentions that most customers should have had water restored when work stopped Monday night. A section of Greenfield around Northwest 4th Street will not have water until some time Tuesday. Water is safe for taking a shower or bathing, but is not safe for consumption and must be boiled before using in cooking or for drinking. In the event of an emergency, GMU asks that residents call the Adair County Sheriff’s Office at 844-580-0810, extension nine, and for non-emergencies call the Sheriff’s Office at extension two.

Raccoon Valley Radio will bring more information as it becomes available.
