Since drought conditions have resurfaced in the Raccoon Valley Radio area that may also limit outdoor water activities.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer for Greene County Aron Arthur says the water level on the Raccoon River in Greene County has been getting lower, which could cause issues for people that want to kayak or canoe.
“If you are planning a nice fall ‘look at the leaves’ trip down the river, I would do a little bit of recon before you go out there and see what the river depths are because there’s nothing worse than going on a kayak trip, you spend 95 percent of your time dragging you kayak because there’s not enough water to float you.”
Arthur adds that sandbars are visible once again and just because the current is not as strong as when the water lever is higher in the river, does not mean that it is easier to go kayaking.
