With the first day of early voting taking place later this month for the November General Election, people can still request an absentee ballot to be mailed to them.

Greene County Auditor Billie Jo Hoskins says before an absentee ballot can be mailed to an eligible voter in the county, a request form must be filled out and submitted to their office at the Greene County Courthouse. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio there are several ways to obtain a request form, including calling the auditor’s office at 515-386-5680 and have one mailed out, one can be emailed to an individual that must be printed and filled out, then returned to the auditor’s office, or going to the county’s office in person.

Hoskins notes that absentee ballots can only be mailed out from October 16th-21st and no absentee ballots will be mailed out after the 21st.

“We encourage you to get your request form in now. That way we have everything ready to go and mailed to you by October 16th because you have to now have the ballot back to us by the close of polls on Election Day (November 5th). So it only gives you 20 days for us to mail you the ballot, you vote the ballot, and get it mailed back and get it back here on time.”

Hoskins reminds everyone that if there are multiple eligible voters within the same household, each person must have filled out their own request form. She adds that another option for early voting is in-person and that also starts on October 16th through the day before Election Day on November 4th. The location will be in the east lobby of the courthouse and is open from 8am-4:30pm Monday through Friday.
