Another hunting season begins tomorrow in the state.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer for Greene County Aron Arthur says the early split archery season is from October 1st through December 6th, which is for deer and fall turkey. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio the most important safety aspect for the archery season involves tree stands.

“We always like to push people for safety, Make sure you use your harness when you’re up in your tree stands so you don’t fall and have a tragic incident happen while hunting.”

Arthur advises anyone who may have a tree stand on their private property that they leave it up all year to check that nothing is loose and could cause an accident. He reminds hunters on public property that their tree stands can be left up until seven days after the archery season is over, otherwise he says he can confiscate the stand and issue that individual a citation. To hear more from Arthur about the early archery season and others that open in October, listen to today’s A & W Family Restaurant Let’s Talk Greene County program.
