The AC/GC Chargers continue their undefeated streak, but the Riverside Bulldogs did not make it easy.

The Chargers scored first after starting with the ball, quickly stepping into a 7-0 lead. That didn’t last long though, as the Bulldogs were also able to score on their opening drive to tie things up. Another touchdown for each team saw them going into the second quarter tied at 14. For the first time this season, AC/GC went into the halftime break trailing, as Riverside punched in two scores while the Chargers were held to one, and trailed 29-21 after the two point conversion from the Bulldogs.

The Chargers came out of halftime kicking the ball away, but senior Payton Policky came in with a baseball slide on junior Oliver Wetzel’s on-side kick, and the team started on the offensive instead of the defensive. Policky was a key part of this drive at the end of it as well, as the Charger marched down the field to score, and after a false start, tried for the two point conversion. With three navy jerseys wrapping him up, senior Jathan South was able to pick out Policky and throw it into the endzone, where Policky hauled the ball down with a defender on him to tie things up 29 all.

Riverside was the next to score, but AC/GC tied things back up, and the teams went into the final quarter tied 36-36. The Chargers scored first in the fourth quarter, going up 43-36, then on some impressive stops, pushed the lead to 50-36. The Bulldogs were able to get another score in, sending the game to its final score of 50-42 after the blocked PAT by big senior lineman Mason Wahl. The Chargers were able to stop the Bulldogs on their final drive, and with one minute 10 seconds left on the clock, moved into victory formation to seal the win.

The Crafty’s Coffee Players of the game saw its first three man selection, with Policky taking the offensive pick for the clutch catch on the two point conversion, while Wetzel took the special teams nomination for putting the ball where he was asked and needed to the entirety of the second half, and senior Ben Franzeen grabbed the defensive nomination, after coming off the field on two separate injury time outs and then returning to continue playing, almost like nothing happened.
