The 2024 recipient for the Wall of Witnesses in Perry has been unveiled.

The newest addition to the wall will be the former longtime Perry High School Principal Dan Marburger. He was one of the three people killed as the result of the January 4th shooting at the high school.

Hometown Heritage President Bill Clark highlights that there are about 25 ceramic plaques on the wall in Soumas Court of individuals who all have a specific tie to the Perry community. Jim Walstrom, who’s the only living member on the Wall of Witnesses, believes that Marburger is deserving of the honor.

“I’m really tickled that Mr. Marburger is the recipient. Congratulations to his family and truly one of the great, brave, heroic men. George Soumas was Iowa’s most decorated war veteran in World War II, and Dan Marburger is right with George Soumas.”

There will be a special presentation to unwrap the ceramic relief for Marburger on October 2nd at 5pm inside the Hotel Pattee Ballroom, 1112 Willis Ave, in Perry. The event is open to the public and will offer a time to remember Marburger, where people can share stories.
