Perry High School is celebrating Homecoming this week, as the King and Queen Coronation is set to take place tonight.

Homecoming Week is halfway through for Perry as students are enjoying the theme of “Around the World.” There are five king candidates and five queen candidates running this year. Senior Owen Myers recalls his reaction when he heard his name called for Homecoming Court.

“It felt good because I like being involved in everything and always seeing all my classmates and being involved with them in everything I do here.”

Myers plays basketball, baseball, and track and field, then is also apart of school related extracurricular activities. Senior Quin Mahler-Moreno tells Raccoon Valley Radio that hopes to represent Perry well if she wins Homecoming Queen.

“I would be really grateful to honor the high school as the queen and I’d also just be grateful and hopeful that being queen is a representation of how I treat my classmates and how I work hard in my activities and my academics.”

Senior Anai Magana expresses that her focus this year is winning the spirit stick.

“I’m pretty competitive, and although I don’t really do the activities, I do love cheering, but everyone just gets together and competes for a spirit stick, and bragging rights. And we haven’t gotten it yet but we will this year.”

While Senior Kenneth Martinez is anticipating seeing the town at the football game on Friday.

“(Be)cause it brings out the community all around town, and we all just gather around to support our Bluejays.”

Geren Kenney, who’s the quarterback for the football team, emphasizes Homecoming, in his opinion, is about the game, and that a win helps bring a positive spin to the end of the week.

A parade will kick off at 6pm circling around Perry High School, followed by a cookout and games in the Perry Performing Arts Center parking lot from 6-8pm, and coronation will cap off the night at 8pm in the high school gymnasium.
