Iowa Auditor of State Rob Sand recently shared the results of an audit on a local Perry organization.

Sand analyzed the Perry Municipal Waterworks company in his latest findings for September. According to Sand, the report revolved around a lack of segregation of duties, bank reconciliation of unresolved variances, and a lack of reconciliation of payroll withholdings.

Sand’s report added that the Waterworks receipts summed up to $5,654,073 for the fiscal year of 2023, which was a 52.7% increase over the prior year. The disbursements for 2023 totaled at $4,296,092, a 41.5% increase from 2022. The report claims the increased water receipts are likely due to a significant increase in usage, while the disbursements rise is from water main replacement projects and purchases of equipment during fiscal year 2023.
