A Lohrville man was recently arrested from an alleged burglary incident in northern Greene County.
According to court documents, a Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy began an investigation on August 7th about a possible burglary in progress at 700 Bell Street in Churdan. The deputy found the front entrance had been forced in and at least one trail camera was reported missing. A photo of the suspect had been taken by another camera inside the house.
Court documents show the deputies were able to positively identify the alleged suspect from a surveillance photo that was taken at Wild Rose Casino in Jefferson on August 8th. The casino surveillance footage also showed the vehicle that the suspect and another individual were driving. The address that was listed with the suspect’s casino player’s card led deputies to find the same vehicle that was at the casino.
After checking with the Calhoun County Assessor’s Office on the ownership of the home at 900 3rd Street in Lohrville, deputies executed a search warrant on August 14th. The suspect, 48-year-old Damon McDonald, denied that the photograph was him at the Churdan residence. A memory card from the alleged stolen camera was labeled for the same missing camera. When McDonald was questioned again by Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams, the suspect admitted to being in the Churdan home to look around and stated the door was open when he entered. Evidence suggests the door had been boarded and that the board was broken off with the forced entry.
An arrest warrant for McDonald was issued on August 14th, charging him with a Class D Felony for third degree burglary, two simple misdemeanors for fifth degree criminal mischief and fifth degree theft, and cited for driving with a suspended license. McDonald was arrested on September 12th when he was booked into the Greene County Jail and later released after posting a $5,000 bond.
