A reminder that Public Safety Day is going to be held today in the City of Perry.

The Perry HyVee grocery store will be hosting fun activities with law enforcement to recognize the important period. HyVee Event Coordinator Larry Vodenik tells Raccoon Valley Radio that many first responders are planning on showing up with the police department, fire department, Life Flight, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, among others. He reveals that the fire department is bringing their smoke house.

“And this is a training facility. It’s safe smoke and they pump it full of that and then they have the kids go in there, and they show them how they get down on the ground, they can crawl out of this. It’s pretty interesting and it gives the kids some good knowledge and everything. It’s amazing that the equipment that these departments have, and this is the time to come out and see it.”

Vodenik outlines that attendees will have an opportunity to meet first responders, sit in their vehicles, take pictures, and more. Public Safety Day is taking place in the HyVee parking lot, 1215 141st Street, in Perry today from 10am-1pm.
