The Guthrie County American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) units have come together to host a fundraising event this weekend.
The Furever Friends Walk will be held September 14th to raise money for the Iowa Service Dogs organization, a group that provides service dogs for veterans, firefighters, rescue team members and police officers. Guthrie County ALA member Dianne Harwood says that they chose to support Iowa Service Dogs because they also include first responders, and mentions that the suicide rate for firefighters is right behind that of veterans.
Harwood mentions that they have t-shirts for sale for the fundraiser, each available for purchase for $25. She adds that they hope to sell all 165 of the shirts they have made, which should net $4,125, enough to help Iowa Service Dogs place a dog, and cover one year of food and veterinary care. Harwood shares that anyone can purchase a t-shirt, and doesn’t have to participate in the walk, however, anyone that wants to participate in the walk will need to purchase a shirt.
