The AC/GC Chargers hosted their first home football game of the year, with the Earlham Cardinals making their way to Guthrie Center.

Things started off rocky for the Chargers, as the Cardinals returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. The team then marched down the field, and fumbled the ball, but was able to stop the Cardinals on the following drive. The next time the Chargers had the ball, they moved the ball from the between the 10 and 15 yard lines, making a pitstop at the 27, before a major 73 yard rush by Joe Crawford for the team’s first touchdown.

The Chargers picked up two more touchdowns in the first half while the Cardinals picked up one more, and the teams went into the halftime break with a 21-14 score. The start of the second half was a repeat of the first, as the Cardinals performed an onside kick, and recovered the ball. They then traveled down the field and picked up their third score of the game, tying things up at 21 between the two teams. The Chargers were able to fight their way down before the end of the third for their final score as well, going up 28-21 going into the final quarter. The Cardinals ate roughly half the clock on their initial fourth quarter drive, before being held back by AC/GC.

The Chargers then ate a substantial amount of the remaining time, turning the ball over on downs inside the Earlham 10 yard line. Earlham brought the ball over the 50 yard line, but was intercepted by Jathan South with two seconds left. South then took a knee with the victory formation, and the Chargers won the game, 28-21.
