A big second half carried Greene County to a 36-7 non-district high school football victory on the road at Dewey Field over the Perry Blue Jays. After a 7-7 tie at intermission, the Rams out scored the home team 29-0 in the second half to improve to 1-1 on the season while Perry fell to 1-1. The game was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

The Rams broke a five game losing streak dating back to last season and they retain the Cowbell, the prize the teams have played for since 1928 when the Rotary Clubs from Jefferson and Perry donated a cowbell that stays with the winning team until the game the next year.

Thee Rams won the coin toss and deferred their choice until the second half. That proved to be a good move as sophomore Trevon Keely returned the second half kickoff 89 yards to put the Rams ahead to stay. It was his first varsity career touchdown.

The Rams ran for 271 yards on 37 carries and were led on the ground by senior Nicholas Stream with 176 rushing yards on 21 carries. Stream scored four touchdowns and a two point conversion for a career night running the football. He scored from, one, nine, nine, and 42 yards.

Greene County attempted just two passes, both late in the first half, and both were incomplete. The Rams did not turn the ball over and had six pelanties for 47 yards.

Perry was penalized seven times for 55 yards and the Blue Jays had one turnover when senior Camden Jacobs picked off a pass after it was deflected. He then returned the ball for 23 yards to midfield.

Perry totaled 198 yards of total offense with senior quarterback Geren Kenney responsible for much of that total. Completing his first six passes, Kenney finished 7-13-1 through the air for 73 yards. Kenney ran the ball 17 times for 81 yards and he scored their only TD on fourth down and one in the second quarter.

The Rams stay on the road  for a Sept. 13 trip to Atlantic. The Trojans are 2-0 after getting by Glenwood last night, 35-34. The game can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
