The Perry Police Department is cautioning drivers to avoid crowding the street surrounding the Perry Elementary School.

The department is advising people not to stop or park on 8th Street in Perry to wait for their child/children to leave the school building. Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the biggest concern is kids darting out in the street and don’t want any accidents. He offers a couple of suggestions for parents/guardians to avoid crowding the road.

“Pull into the parking lot. If there’s not room to pull into the parking lot, then we’re just asking (them to) find a different location to pick up their child, just for safety reasons.”

Vaughn comments that he’s finding people stopping in Circle Drive, which will fill up and then cause people to start parking on the street. If people can’t access Circle Drive, then Vaughn invites them to park along Bateman Street, Dewey Avenue, or Summer Street. Any questions can be directed to the Perry Police Department at (515)-465-4636.
