Several small game hunting seasons have started in Iowa.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Jeremy King mentions that a few of those seasons started September 1st, with both dove and teal seasons kicking off. He mentions that hunters need to pay extra attention when hunting teal to make sure that they don’t accidentally harvest other waterfowl, adding that teal season runs until September 16th.
King explains that for doves, a tip that hunters should follow is to watch bodies of water in the evening, as they can see several coming in to bed down for the night. He adds that some other small game animals like rabbits, squirrels, rails and snipes. Rails and snipes are fairly uncommon to find in the area according to King, while rabbits and squirrels are most common.
