The Perry School District is seeing a good number of students coming out for band.

According to Perry Band Director Blaine Schmidt, 67 students are enrolled in band after ending the previous year with 51. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that they started summer practices at the beginning of August. Schmidt is preparing the band for the first home football game this Friday as the Bluejays take on Greene County.

As far as performances go, Schmidt outlines that competitions start on October 19th with both the Iowa High School Music Association State Marching Contest in Waukee and the Mid-Iowa Band Championship in Ankeny.
