It’s the start of the Labor Day Weekend, and many law enforcement agencies will be out to make sure Iowa drivers are safe.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper Shelby McCreedy says that troopers and officers with local agencies will all be out with an increased presence just like they are for any other holiday. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio some tips for drivers when they are out and about for the weekend.

“Obviously the same tenement safety we talk about all the time. Make sure you wear your seatbelt. Make sure you obey the speed limit. Do not drive impaired, don’t drive drowsy because drowsy is an impairment as well. And so just make sure that you adhere to all of the safety standards. And make sure that you are aware of the increase in traffic so that way you’re able to navigate it safely.”

McCreedy mentions that it doesn’t matter how far people are driving for any festivities this weekend, and that whether it’s only six miles or 600 miles, staying aware of your surroundings and paying attention to the road is imperative with the increase in traffic that will happen.
