As National Immunization Awareness Month winds down in August, vaccines continue to be offered year round.
Greene County Public Health Director Becky Wolf says aside from the required vaccines for youth to have to go to school, there are a number of other vaccines that are recommended. These immunizations include influenza for kids as early as six months, along with the covid vaccine for six months to age 11, Human Pamplona Virus (HPV) starting at nine years old, Meningitis B for 16 year olds, and RSV for kids eight months and younger.
Wolf points out the other vaccines that they offer to people 19 and older include Hepatitis A and B, Tdap, Shingles, HPV up to 45 years old, pneumonia and influenza. She notes that GCPH is not allowed to administer some of these immunizations to individuals who have Medicare Part D, but can get them through pharmacies. Wolf suggests calling them if someone has questions.
“It’s really kind of complex where you can get your vaccines. We try to make it really, really easy and accessible. But if you have any questions just give us a call. We’ll give you more information. Our nurses are very knowledgeable about which vaccines the insurance will pay and which ones Medicare Part D will pay.”
GCPH has weekly immunization clinics on Wednesdays from 8am-4:30pm at Greene County Medical Center. An evening clinic is held every third Wednesday of the month from 4-6:15pm. Contact Greene County Public Health at 515-386-3228 to schedule an appointment.
