School will be back in session later this week as Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn offers safety reminders.

Vaughn tells Raccoon Valley Radio that kids and youth will be traveling to school in the morning hours around 7am, then dismissing from about 2:30-3:30pm. He emphasizes that not only will more cars be out on the road, but children on bikes, scooters, or even walking. Vaughn highlights that officers will be present around crosswalks due to kids’ unpredictability.

“Because a lot of times they just get to that crosswalk, man they’re just bolting right across, so maybe have a conversation with them too, but also we want to make sure we’re just out there during those busy times.”

Vaughn discusses that making a visible presence will help decrease the temptation for people to speed, and just be an extra layer of protection for the students. The first day of school for Perry will be on Friday.
