A senior on the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Volleyball team realizes how critical communication is on the court.

Madi James is a multi-sport athlete, who tells Raccoon Valley Radio that she had about a week in between finishing softball and starting volleyball, but nevertheless is stoked. A big component to the game of volleyball is talking with your teammates, and James zeroes in on that fact, particularly on the road.

“It’s super important, especially in games when we have student sections on both sides and it gets so loud. There’s only six girls out there and so our little huddles in the middle, that always helps us, but communication with sets, with hits, (and) passing. If we’re doing something wrong, or like having an off night, trying to pick ourselves up or give tips and stuff just to make sure that our teammates are getting there best work, and putting their best work forward.”

James is in awe of the Tigers fans and loves playing at home in Adel, but indicates she would love to return to Xtream Arena in Coralville. Having said that, James mentions that returning to state is the ultimate goal, but wants to enjoy her senior year.

“Just taking one game at a time, enjoying the moment just as I am a senior and so it’s some of the last few games that I’ll have with these girls, in this uniform too. Just taking in the moments, and then obviously working towards goals that we have for ourselves.”

ADM Volleyball will begin with a scrimmage at Johnston High School this coming Saturday at 9am with 10 other teams participating.
