West Central Valley High School will have a new face on its administrative team when the school year starts later this month.

Principal Randy Martin says that he has been working in education for going on 45 years, with the first 12 being spent teaching industrial technology, and the next 32 as a high school principal. He mentions that the majority of that time was spent at South Central Calhoun, and he actually retired at the end of the 2022-23 school year.

Martin tells Raccoon Valley Radio what brought him out of retirement.

“I got a call in January to go to the Perry Community Schools after their January 4th incident in the building to be a support administrator. And when I got up there around the middle school and high school students and teaching staff, I found out that I still have the education bug, want to be in it. And West Central (Valley) had an opening, so I applied, and I was fortunate enough they hired me. And here I am, and hopefully I have a great year.”

Martin explains that he’s originally from the area, having grown up in Redfield. He adds that he’s already done some work in talking with the communities that make up the school district, and also talked with some of the staff to get himself prepared for the school year.
