The summer project list is continuing to see progress with the Greene County School District.

Superintendent Brett Abbotts says one of the main projects was improving the lighting at Linduska Field. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the wooden light poles with the old fixtures surrounding Linduska Field have been replaced with steel poles with LED lights. Abbotts reminds the public that there was an overall safety reason for replacing the light poles.

“You know now that the old ones are on the ground and you get out and actually go look at those poles and see some of that wood and it’s like how they didn’t break or anything like that is kind of beyond me. But these ones are in, they’re 14 foot into the ground, and they’re solid steel, and LEDs, so they kind of come on and off like a light switch. It’s going to be pretty exciting.”       

Abbotts points out the school board approved in their April meeting an amount not to exceed $280,000 for this project with Musco Sports Lighting with an added “Showtime” package that includes using up to four colored lights that can sync to music. He talks about the main reason why the board selected adding that feature.

“It’s the next step as we look at how we upgrade Linduska (Field) and start to get it into this position where we can make it a premier (Class) 2A facility, and just a place where our kids are proud to call home.”  

Abbotts adds other summer projects include minor repairs to the ceiling and rafters at the elementary school gym, new carpet in the middle and elementary schools, as well as installing the final security features in the main offices and the last automatic locking doors via the state school safety and security grant. All of these projects, aside from the school safety grant, were paid with funds from the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL).
