The Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines has announced that Greenfield’s First National Bank, Union State Bank and the E.E. Warren Opera House Association have been selected as one of six Strong Communities Award finalists.

The Strong Communities Award honors the projects, the people and the programs that promote small business growth and retention in their communities. Warren Cultural Center Executive Director Ken Sidey explains why the nominated Greenfield organizations deserve to receive the public’s consideration for this award.

“In addition to all of the activity we’ve had here–the more than 50 or so meetings, receptions and weddings, the more than 40 stage presentations like concerts and plays of all sorts–this has become a real spillover effect to other businesses around. We’re becoming a tourist attraction and so once people are in town, they’re shopping in other stores and seeing the community, and then coming back for more shows and more visits.”

The Warren Cultural Center in Greenfield is up against projects from Denver, St. Louis, Faulkton, South Dakota, and Chatfield, Minnesota, for this year’s Strong Communities Award.  Voting for the best project begins next Monday, July 21st.

The winner will be recognized during a community celebration and receive that $15,000 stipend.  The remaining finalists are guaranteed a $2,500 stipend.
