Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is looking at a slow month of programs in August.

Youth Coordinator Rachel Blum says that the final event for their summer programming was August 1st, and now they are preparing for the Iowa State Fair which will be August 8th through 18th, and that there are several Guthrie County competitors that will be heading to Des Moines to participate in events.

Once the State Fair is over, Blum explains that the Extension Office will be working to finish getting everything ready for the Guthrie County Fair, which will be from August 28th to September 4th. She tells Raccoon Valley it’s her first time working on the Guthrie County Fair.

“I’m excited just to be present down there and see what Guthrie County is all about. I’m excited to learn with the 4-H’ers this year, and grow with FFA members, just finding our pros and cons. Figuring out what we can do better for next year. Because, obviously, there’s always things that we can always work on. And yeah, just being present, being open minded to everything.”

Blum mentions that there are a few deadlines on August 15th for those wanting to participate at the Guthrie County Fair. She adds that that is the last day to scratch an event and not participate in it, and that it is also the due date for reports for bucket/bottle calves and garden boxes.
