Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team became active Wednesday evening.

Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for Guthrie and Greene Counties at 6:27pm, and Dallas County was added at 7:31pm when Greene and Guthrie Counties were extended to 8:15pm. Around 7:40pm, Stuart began experiencing strong winds that caused minimal tree damage and heavy rains, and at 7:54, southeastern Guthrie County had its severe thunderstorm warning extended to 8:45pm. Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams reported 30-40 mph winds in the Cooper area, and 10 mph winds and slight rain in Rippey. At 8pm, torrential rains began in Perry, along with 40+ mph winds.

A trained weather spotter then reported funnel clouds on the east side of Perry, and at 8:10pm the severe thunderstorm warning for Dallas County was extended to 8:45pm. At 8:21pm, the Dallas Center Fire Department reported wind gusts at 45 mph and storm spotters reported low hanging scud clouds in Perry. Dallas County’s severe thunderstorm warning was once again extended, this time to 9:15pm. More scud clouds were reported in Perry at 8:34pm, and the storm began losing intensity around 8:40pm, causing the warning to expire early at 8:59pm, when the Severe Weather Action Team finished coverage.
