Two Jefferson High School graduates are teaming up for an event that brings together nutrition education and awareness of food insecurity.

Susie Kundrat is a 1984 Jefferson High School graduate, this year’s Tower of Fame Award recipient, and is currently on a nation-wide book tour as she wrote “Eat Move Groove: Unlock the Simple Steps to Lifelong Nutrition, Fitness and Wellness.” Kundrat is making a stop on Saturday for a program at Beaverdale Books in Des Moines where she is going to educate people about taking the science of nutrition and how to keep it simple, practical and applicable to life, as she calls it an “invitation to wellness.”

And so part of what we’re doing is raising awareness and raising funds for food security/nutrition security efforts, food banks, food pantries around the country.”

Book talks about the easy decision it was to collaborate with Kundrat to put on Saturday’s program.

“As I talk about food insecurity across the state of Iowa and the needs of hard-working Iowa families to put more nutritious meals on the table and to live healthier lifestyles, when I saw Susie’s book it just seem like a perfect

Saturday’s event is from 1-3pm at Beaverdale Books. Kundrat adds she did a similar program at the book signing with the Jefferson Public Library during this year’s Bell Tower Festival, where she donated 22 percent of sales to the food pantry in Jefferson.
