safety-camp-2023

Graduated participants from 2023

There are a few youth programs coming up with the Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department.

JPRD Assistant Director Nathan Kral says the annual Safety Camp is August 6th-9th from 9-11am at the Greene County Community Center and it is for kids going into kindergarten this fall. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that participants will learn several different aspects of safety including bicycle, pool, electrical, and “strange danger,” among other topics. Kral talks about his favorite part of Safety Camp.

“I like that all the kids just being able to listen. To them, a lot of it is new things or maybe some stuff they’ve learned already. But it’s fun to get these different people in here, such as a police officer, and the kids like to ask questions that are really not related to what we’re covering, but that’s what makes it fun.”

Kral notes that this is a free program, due to the sponsorship of the Jefferson Elks Lodge #2306, and space is limited. Contact the community center at 515-386-2134 or click here to sign up.
