A reminder that today eight Greene County 4-H’ers are headed to a regional livestock show.

Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway says the Heartland Throwdown takes the champion breeding and market livestock from the Greene County Fair and they compete against seven other counties.

“One person will be selected in each of those classes and then they’ll actually go to compete at the All Iowa Showdown, which is a state show but you have to qualify for. So for the Iowa State Fair, anybody can sign up to compete at the Iowa State Fair, but at Heartland Throwdown you have to qualify at your county show and then qualify at the (Heartland) Throwdown to compete at the All Iowa Showdown. It’s a really neat opportunity, it’s really bringing the best of the best altogether for a really competitive show.”

The other counties that are at the Heartland Throwdown include Dallas, Marshall, Calhoun, Guthrie, Jasper, Story and Polk. The competition starts at 1pm at the Story County Fairgrounds main show ring. Hardaway adds that Elise Badger qualified last year for the All Iowa Showdown.
