A couple of prestigious figures in Dallas County are being recognized for their efforts during the January 4th shooting at Perry High School.
Iowa’s Third District Congressman Zach Nunn recently took time to honor the men and women serving on the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and 911 Dispatchers who stepped in during the tragedy, which killed longtime Perry High School Principal Dan Marburger and sixth grader Ahmir Jolliff.
Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante tells Raccoon Valley Radio that Nunn went to the school following the shooting to offer his support in whatever ways necessary. According to Infante, Nunn was hoping to award members for their bravery. Infante is grateful for each department that responded to the tragedy, but believes that the dispatchers were crucial during the unfolding events.
“I thought dispatch really shined that day. It’s such a tough call to take and to remain calm and professional, and be able to give us the information accurately and timely. They really contributed to saving lives I believe.”
The dispatchers that were recognized included Ashley Kuntz, Jill Johansen, Bob Coffin, and Holly Smith. Communications Manager Terry McCannahan and Infante were also amongst the others to be honored.
