It has been less than one month since the city of Jefferson switched to a new recycling system and one city official is weighing in on the progress.

City Administrator Scott Peterson says the first week of single stream recycling was an overall success.

“And we know that the response has been really good and you can tell that just by the number of these green carts that have been placed out on the roadside. So (we) feel really good about that.”

A reminder for residents that the garbage and recycling carts must be at least four feet apart so the operator can have enough space to pick up their respective cart. Peterson points out that the bigger 95-gallon carts should have been distributed late last week and will be in use this week, as it is recycling week. For any resident that didn’t receive their cart but would like one, they are to contact City Hall at 515-386-3111.
